VORTEX - What is it?
What is VORTEX or Mutual Aid Network? It is the Valkyrie Owners Rescue Team Exchange. Chuck Hickey started this back in 1997 as a community of Valkyrie Owners who have banded together to list their City and States, phone numbers and e-mail addresses into a register (now database) for fellow members in times of need. Since Valkyries seem to rarely break down, this list has developed into more of a "social" function. However, the intent was to group together Valkyrie riders and provide them access to fellow riders in case they might need assistance when traveling. It is also a method of staying in contact with like minded folks and perhaps just getting some directions to great roads when in the area or a nice place for lunch. If you want to get together and kick some tires - that is up to you. This is very similar to the AMAs "Helping Hands" program or the GWRRAs "Gold Book". In fact, it was started because back in 97, the GWRRA wouldnt allow Valkyrie "Boosters" inclusion in the "Gold Book".
Here is what VORTEX is NOT: The Valkyrie Owners Rescue Team Exchange does NOT require any dues. Membership is free as it is supported by the membership who are willing to help each other and share information with each other. It is NOT a mailing list for entrepreneurs and should not be used for any commercial purposes. I dont mind if you list your company, but the point is that you are offering help, assistance or camaraderie here --- not a business opportunity.
What has it become: It is an international group with representatives in several continents and consists of 1000's of members. The database is maintained on the web (thanks to Gale & Lamont) and is accessible ONLY to VRCC Members using their VRCC password. We do this because it is easier to keep up to date, to print and to access so I dont have to mail out e-mails every time the list grows.
I hope you never have to use the list for emergency purposes, but it is kind of nice knowing that it is there when you need it. On the other hand - many people have met some pretty nice folks when passing through their neighborhoods. Dont be afraid to use the list! Welcome aboard. Join Now!
